Ollyander Musindo, a computer engineering student, has recently completed her participation in the Erasmus Plus Exchange Programme in Turkey, a unique initiative aimed at promoting educational exchanges and cultural integration among international students. Musindo’s enriching journey through the program, which offers financial assistance for living expenses, has provided her with invaluable academic and social experiences.
The Erasmus Plus Programme, designed to foster educational collaboration, provided Ollyander with an educational grant that is disbursed in two instalments, first upon arrival and the remainder, upon completion of the programme. This financial support encompasses essential expenses, including housing, food, transportation, health insurance, and the processing of resident cards.
During her studies, Ollyander engaged in multiple courses, most of which echoed her prior academic endeavours. However, two key subjects, Technical Programming and Microprocessors, stood out in her experience. “Technical Programming not only deepened my understanding of advanced programming principles but also introduced me to a new programming language,” she noted. “Microprocessors provided me with hands-on experience with processor architecture and applications, significantly enhancing my practical skills in hardware programming and design.”
In addition to academic development, Ollyander highlighted the welcoming environment she encountered in Turkey. She described it as a place where freedom and inclusivity thrive, with friendly and hospitable locals making the experience even more enjoyable.
The social aspect of Ollyander’s journey was equally enriching, as she connected with fellow Erasmus students from various African countries, including Nigeria, Algeria, Burundi, Malawi, Cambodia, and Ethiopia, as well as local Turkish students. “Building these connections has expanded my cultural horizons and created a supportive network of friends from diverse backgrounds,” she remarked.
Ollyander also took part in several activities that enhanced her cultural experience. She attended the Alanya International Week, interacting with other Erasmus students and representatives. Her adventurous spirit led her on a tour of a local resort area and mountain hikes with friends, providing them with unforgettable experiences in the scenic landscapes of Turkey. Additionally, she participated in the Turkish Independence celebrations, which allowed her to gain insight into the local culture and traditions.
