During an inspiring address at the 2024 Vice Chancellor’s Luncheon held on 18 December 2024, HIT Vice Chancellor Professor Eng. Quinton C. Kanhukamwe reflected on the institution’s accomplishments over the past year and outlined future goals amidst the challenges faced in 2024.
“The end of the year is an opportune moment for us to reflect on the journey we have undertaken,” said Prof. Kanhukamwe. “It also provides an opportunity for introspection about our contributions to realizing the Institute’s mandate.”
He highlighted several milestones from 2024 and praised the university’s innovative spirit. “I would like to commend the University’s staff and students who distinguished themselves and represented the Institute well on local, regional, and global platforms, as we received recognitions for excellence in research and academia.”
Despite a “harsh operating environment,” the Vice Chancellor emphasized HIT’s resilience and commitment to sustainability. “Management has continued to prudently allocate available resources to critical areas necessary for sustaining university operations. We will continue to explore options to reduce our dependence on government support,” he noted.
Among the significant events was the successful Technovation Expo held in September, which showcased HIT’s research capabilities. “This year’s edition, which ran under the theme ‘Beyond Disruptive Innovation,’ included international conferences and workshops covering critical topics,” he added.
As the university adapts to the evolving educational landscape, Prof. Kanhukamwe announced future aspirations. “Our Strategic Plan, Vision 2025 ‘Designing the Future,’ remains the key driver of all University activities and motivates us to move forward,” he stated, linking this plan to the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) to contribute to Vision 2030.
In concluding his address, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of collective effort. “HIT remains a formidable force in Zimbabwe’s higher education sector, and through our united efforts, we can achieve even greater results as we effectively fulfill our mandate.”
The Vice Chancellor also presented certificates and cash awards to several staff members in recognition of their contributions towards advancing the HIT mandate through their research outputs and innovations.
