The Vice Chancellor of the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT), Professor Engineer Quinton Chamunorwa Kanhukamwe, delivered an inspiring address to the institution’s first-year students today, highlighting the importance of taking their studies seriously. He emphasized that they have the potential to help transform Zimbabwe into a first-world nation.
In his speech, Professor Kanhukamwe stressed that HIT serves as an invaluable platform for students to develop their skills and contribute to the country’s technological advancement. He encouraged them to cultivate meaningful friendships and surround themselves with individuals who inspire growth while advising them to avoid negative influences.
“Your enrollment here signifies that you have made the right choice,” he stated. “We aim to instill a spirit of patriotism and innovation in you, empowering you to envision and work toward a developed, self-sufficient Zimbabwe.”
Professor Kanhukamwe reminded the students of the challenges they may face during their academic journey, urging them to stay focused on their goals and remain resilient in the face of adversity. He outlined the critical role of technological advancements in the success of nations and encouraged students to become capable graduates who would drive Zimbabwe’s industrialization and modernization efforts.
With over 500 first-year students enrolled in various Bachelor of Technology programmes, including some from neighbouring SADC countries, the Vice Chancellor affirmed that these students will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the nation and the region.
