ZPSA HOSTS 8TH ANNUAL WHITE COAT CEREMONY, INSPIRING FUTURE LEADERS IN PHARMACY

The Zimbabwe Pharmaceutical Students Association (ZPSA) celebrated its 8th Annual White Coat Ceremony at the University of Zimbabwe on 27 September 2024, under the theme “Elevating Pharmaceutical Care Through Science, Education, and Practice.”
The event welcomed first-year Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science students from various institutions, offering them valuable insights into their future careers. The ceremony aimed to foster collaboration among stakeholders in the pharmaceutical field and to provide new students with guidance on how they can contribute to the growth of the profession. Attendees had the opportunity to network across institutions, laying the groundwork for upcoming local student exchange programmes. This initiative seeks to equip students with the skills needed to excel in a competitive global environment, emphasising practical and soft skills essential for professional development.
The event featured esteemed speakers from various organisations, including the Pharmacists Council of Zimbabwe, the Pharmaceutical Society of Zimbabwe, and the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe. Students took oaths of commitment while wearing their white coats, symbolising their dedication to ethical practice in pharmacy. ZPSA Patron Mai Chaibva and several distinguished guests and mentors shared insights and experiences to motivate students.
ZPSA National President Vincent Nyereyemhuka, a final year Bachelor of Pharmacy student at the Harare Institute of Technology gave welcome remarks to kickstart the day. Dr L Gonde, the HIT Department of Pharmaceutical Technology Chairperson also graced the occasion as a guest speaker with a topic entitled “ Let’s Make Elephants Fly?”. Dr Amos Marume from Harare Institute of Public Health was the guest of honour.
After the formal proceedings, attendees enjoyed a social gathering to foster connections and continue discussions. The ceremony was a resounding success, as echoed by the various organisers. Looking ahead to 2025, the Harare Institute of Technology is set to host the prestigious event, with gratitude to the supportive faculty and media team for their contributions to this memorable occasion.
