Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) students continue to shine globally. The Software Engineering program at the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) has demonstrated its excellence by producing outstanding students who can compete and thrive on an international level.

Mia Mudzingwa, a Software Engineering student at HIT, along with Chakwizira Diza from the Telone Centre for Learning’s Telecomms Engineering, achieved first place in the Huawei Technologies Best Contents Competition. They created a captivating video detailing their digital journey at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai Technology Conference.

“I feel honoured to have been announced as one of the people who won the award,” she said.

Their submission impressed the judges and secured the top position at the Leadership Employability Advancement Possibility (LEAP) summit in Shanghai on Friday, June 28, 2024.

This achievement highlights HIT’s ability to nurture competitive students who can excel in international competitions. The institute’s comprehensive academic curriculum and technopreneurial mentorship have equipped its students and graduates with the skills and confidence to compete globally.

The Huawei LEAP program, which spans 27 countries and regions in sub-Saharan Africa, has consistently witnessed Zimbabwean students making significant strides. Dr. Tatenda Mavetera, the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Services, commended the students’ achievement, emphasizing Zimbabwe’s leadership in the international arena.

“With President ED Mnangagwa at the helm, Zimbabwe sets the pace and we revel in our success. He inspires us to strive for excellence, reminding us that we must go out and shine. That’s why you saw me celebrating enthusiastically,” Dr. Mavetera said. “As Zimbabweans, we’re proud to lead the way, showcasing our strengths and character wherever we go.”

As part of their victory, the two students will serve as digital ambassadors, promoting digital literacy among students across the country and bolstering HIT’s reputation as a leading institution for nurturing globally competitive talent.
