The Finnish Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Ms. Saana Halinen visited the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) on June 6, 2024.
Ambassador Halinen proposed potential collaborations in renewable energies, emphasising the need for sustainable solutions to address climate change. She also inquired about the “From Toxicity to Safety” (TFK) or ToxiSA programme, a collaborative project involving multiple higher educational institutions in Africa and Finland, including HIT.
During her visit, the HIT Vice Chancellor of HIT, Professor Q.C Kanhukamwe, highlighted the university’s interest in collaborating with Finnish universities and other entities, particularly in the field of pharmaceutical technology.
Professor Kanhukamwe expressed HIT’s openness to collaborations in various areas, including the organization of joint workshops and conferences with Finnish universities.
The visit by the Finnish Ambassador was a significant step towards strengthening ties between HIT and Finland, paving the way for future collaborations and partnerships between the two countries. This visit symbolizes the growing relations between Zimbabwe and Finland and has the potential to lead to further opportunities for research, development, and innovation collaborations.
