A two-day workshop on the Trans-Fatty Acids Elimination Project has been launched at the Bronte Hotel in Harare today.
This collaborative project between the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) and Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), is bringing together experts from academia and industry to develop a comprehensive plan to support the implementation of best practices on Industrial Trans-Fatty Acids (IP-TFA) elimination policies in Zimbabwe.
The project aims to advocate for a mandatory limit of 2% of total fat in all fats, oils, and foods in the country, aligning with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) REPLACE action package to eliminate industrially-produced trans-fatty acids.
The workshop is expected to pave the way for Zimbabwe to join the global effort to eliminate trans-fatty acids and reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases.
