B Tech (Hons) Degree in Materials Technology and Engineering (Conventional)
Applications are invited for admission into Part 1 of the B Tech (Hons) Degree in Materials Technology and Engineering Programme. Candidates should possess:
At least 2 ‘A’ Level passes in Mathematics and Chemistry/Physics or any other equivalent subject
OR
A National Diploma (ND) in Materials Technology and Engineering or its equivalent plus two years post qualification experience
OR
A Higher National Diploma (HND) in Materials Technology and Engineering or its equivalency.
Overview
Materials Technology and Engineering is an interdisciplinary branch of engineering that involves the processing, synthesis, modification, selection, and application of engineering materials to meet the specific functions in our diverse society. The field is concerned with the design, manufacture, and use of all classes of materials (including metals, ceramics, composites, semi-conductors, polymers, and biomaterials) to address key national economic issues such as energy, mining, agriculture, environmental, health and manufacturing. The unique HIT Materials Technology and Engineering programme produces cadres with the ability to develop new materials and improve existing processes for producing materials to achieve better utilization and beneficiation of resources.

- Apply principles and techniques to materials selection and materials design
- Construct, install, commission, operate, maintain, develop and improve machine and material processing plants
- Carry out research and development related to materials technology industries
- Apply skills to improve existing technologies
- Use techniques to invent new mechanisms in materials science and engineering
- Employ analytical techniques to test physical and chemical properties of materials
- Add value in exploiting indigenous knowledge systems in design, construction and operation of process plants.
- Provide management decision support
- Exploit indigenous natural resources to come up with diverse raw materials

- Application forms are obtainable from the Institute at a non-refundable fee of $25.00 for Zimbabweans and $50.00 for international applicants.
- The application forms are also downloadable from our website www.hit.ac.zw. An application fee can be deposited into the HIT Bank Account: CBZ Account Number: 02420583120037, Swift Code: COBZZWHA Branch Sort Code: 6120, Harare Sapphire Branch.
- Before making payment through the Bank, applicants must visit our website and obtain a reference number which is used when depositing the application fee.
- Candidates who wish to apply on-line should visit the University website; www.hit.ac.zw
The completed form should be accompanied by certified copies of the following:
- Relevant academic and/or professional certificates, results slips or transcripts.
- National Identity Card of first three pages of a candidate’s passport.
- Birth Certificate
- Bank deposit slip
The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is Friday, 27 July 2018 at 1600hrs. Late applications will be considered up to Friday, 10 August 2018 upon payment of a late application fee of US$50.00.
