The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has handed over a donation of Multi-Seat Computer System worth USD 25 000 to the Institute Library and Information Services.
In his speech at the handover ceremony, ZERA technical director Mr M. Siyakatshana it is the authority's hope that the system will go a long way in increasing access to information, generating and triggering novel ideas and innovation among students, researchers and teaching staff for a better economy. "Libraries are centres of knowledge that offer equal access to information to all students and staff to dream, thrive and innovate. It is our hope that this donation will contribute to HIT's vision and mission as well as the economy at large through stimulating relevant ideas for the betterment of the nation," he said.
Mr Siyakatshana added that ZERA is proud to be associated with HIT, a distinct brand of innovative think tanks. this has seen ZERA engaging HIT to conduct various consultancy work as a show of faith in your products and services. "We are also sponsoring two HIT students under the ZERA scholarship and we will be enrolling more students as the year progresses." he said.
In his acceptance remarks HIT Vice chancellor Eng. Q.C Kanhukamwe expressed gratitude to ZERA for such a noble gesture to the Institute, and specifically to the Library. "Our Library and information Services is positioning itself as a smart library that provides adequate access to smart technologies in order to increase use of available digital resources. this computer system is an invaluable addition to the available machines.
"I am confident that this donation will go a long way in enhancing the Library's online information environment. This donation has come at a time when prices of laptops have ballooned beyond the reach of many of our students. our students can now enjoy equal access to online information for their studies," said the Vice Chancellor.
