HIT VC Inspires Youth At Innovation Baraza

Vice Chancellor of HIT, Engineer Quinton Kanhukamwe inspired young entrepreneurs at the Innovation Baraza held on 10 July at the Baraza Pavilion in Tynwald, Harare.

The event was coordinated by the Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy in Harare.

The Vice Chancellor said HIT was ever cognizant and alive to the centrality of innovation to national development. Innovation, he said is responding to a real life challenge and providing an appropriate solution. He called on innovators to consider the use of intellectual property, without which, there could be no meaningful innovation.

The Innovation Baraza was aimed at showcasing local innovations that have the potential to solve problems; while creating a positive impact through entrepreneurship.

Out of 40 teams that exhibited at the event, 5 teams were selected. These teams will undergo mentorship and an incubation process for the next two months as they prepare to present their ideas at the Simba Savannah Investors Forum in Kenya in October.

Director of the Udugu Institute and Founder of the Innovation Baraza, Dr Nginya Mungai Lennieye posed a fundamental challenge to Africa's youth to stay focused and contribute towards the development of the continent through a solution- based approach.

Guest of Honour, the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Honourable Supa Mandiwanzira, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Engineer Sam Kundishora said the youth were at the heart of the activities of the Ministry. He also added that he Ministry was also committed to the full implementation of ICTs in the education sector.
