HIT joins Oxford Club of Rectors
HIT Acting Vice Chancellor Eng Q.C Kanhukamwe following proceedings at the Admission ceremony during the Oxford Summit of Leaders ‘Science and Education’
The Harare Institute of Technology through its Acting Vice Chancellor, Engineer Quinton Kanhukamwe was on 18 December 2013 admitted into the Oxford Club of Rectors (CRE), a prestigious grouping of university presidents and vice chancellors based in the UK.
In their communique to the Vice Chancellor, the Oxford based institution's Director General Professor John Netting, Club of Rectors of Europe Academic Council and its President Professor Wil Goodheer expressed their deep respect for HIT's consistent efforts towards developing national science and education system, which conforms to:
- Academic development: accessibility of education, level of research activity, participation in conferences,
- Quality of resources and infrastructure, conformity of specialties to the requirements of the market, transparency of work, security of students, compete-tiveness of graduates, and
- Reputation: level of presence in mass media and press appraisal, number of publications in scientific journals, effectiveness of university website, references in national/international search engines, logotype/brand awareness, promptness in response and service, corporate-style support, the ratio of positive and negative reviews, and membership in international associations.
The Admission ceremony was conducted during the Oxford Summit of Leaders 'Science and Education' – an annual forum of investors, academics, university presidents and rectors from around the world in the United Kingdom (UK). The summit, was focussing on the following topics: new trends in higher education, the popularization of modern educational programmes and methods, the presentation of scientific advances and emerging innovative solutions, and the extending of international cooperation in scientific and educational spheres.
CRE is a non-governmental public organization dedicated to furthering communication and the exchange of ideas between rectors, deans and senior academics throughout the world. Throughout the year, members of the CRE gather at events facilitated by Europe Business Assembly (EBA) to share their experiences to discuss new ways of managing and progressing their institutions.

This publication is also presented to the library collections of parliaments and ministries, major universities, embassies, and trade missions of Europe Business Assembly (EBA) participating countries.
- The possibility of taking part in the international scientific exchange and cooperation programmes of the CRE.
- A quota for internship training, including participation in the Oxford Education Centre training workshops, a scheme originated by the Club members and in accordance with the model of Oxford Business College.
- Participation in the online CRE Leaders Network, which aims at providing members of the Club and the wider European community with information on:
- your university/company with an active link to your personal website;
- trainings, workshops, exhibitions and conferences held by the members of the Club;
- opportunities for students to obtain their postgraduate education with the university members of the Club;
