Vice Chancellor's New Year Message

HIT Honoured at Business Leadership and Enterprise Competitiveness Summit

On behalf of the Institute Board, and the Senior Management, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year.

The New Year always brings a sense of renewal, optimism and hope for the new lease of life bestowed upon us, and it is an opportunity for us to once again re-dedicate ourselves towards the continued development of this great University.

I would like to thank all staff and students for their dedication and commitment towards the achievement of our mandate throughout 2016. We were mandated by Government to develop, incubate, transfer and commercialise technology for Zimbabwe's rapid industrialisation, - and it is our responsibility to take that lead role as we contribute to Zimbabwe's overall development.

We begin the New Year on a high note with credible achievements in the core areas of our mandate. We were bestowed with various accolades by internationally accredited bodies and research institutes worldwide, - in recognition of our role in driving innovation and technopreneurship in Zimbabwe. We commend our students and staff who worked tirelessly towards raising our local and global profile.

We should remain cognisant of the fact that if we are to remain at the forefront of research and innovation; we need to invest our time and energy in profitable initiatives. We need to engage in robust research, and to publish our own journals as we push the frontiers of knowledge in the areas of our enterprise – Science, Technology, Engineering and Technology.

We also need to consolidate our efforts with regards to industry partnerships to ensure that all our research and teaching outcomes are in sync with current trends and practice. Furthermore, the creation of sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships is important for the continued growth of the University.

Another important area which I would like to mention is the area of resource mobilisation. I cannot over-emphasize the importance of this aspect and as we embark into this New Year, let us renew our focus on resource mobilisation as we court new partners and bid for grants and consultancies in the areas of our expertise.

I am confident that 2017 will be another great year for the Institute, as we build on the accomplishments of the previous year.
I wish you every success in all your endeavours and may God richly bless you.
