SANBio Zimbabwe Student Ambassadorial Team Visit the Malawi Fish NodeThe Zimbabwe SANBio Student Ambassadorial team, led by Joyce Fati Masvaya recently visited the Malawi Fish Node at Lilongwe University of Agriculture & Natural Resources (LUANAR) to familiarise with ongoing projects that could also be undertaken by youth in Zimbabwe; as an initiative to involve the youth in food security and food production.

Masvaya, the SANBio Zimbabwe's Student Ambassador led a team of 10 students from the Harare Institute of Technology's Department of Biotechnology and the University of Zimbabwe's Biosciences Department on a 4-day trip to Malawi.

"With the knowledge acquired from the Malawi Fish Node, our team looks forward to initiating Youth Development Projects which can improve young people's livelihoods through biosciences in Zimbabwe. The new projects will focus on fish farming and mushroom production," said Masvaya.

SANBio Zimbabwe Student Ambassadorial Team Visit the Malawi Fish NodeThe team also hadan opportunity to engage with Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Lilongwe University of Agriculture & Natural Resources (LUANAR) Prof. Emmanuel Kaunda, who enlightened the students on the importance of hands-on skills and encouraged the team to undertake research which impacts on livelihoods of local communities.

The Zimbabwean students hope to continue networking with students from different countries to come up with solutions for Africa. Plans are under way to conduct more visits to various SANBio Node projects with other student ambassadorial teams from Malawi and South Africa later this year.

SANBio Zimbabwe Student Ambassadorial Team Visit the Malawi Fish NodeThe role of the SANBio Student Ambassadors is to innovate and implement bioscience-related activities that are aimed at raising awareness, improving the livelihoods of the youth and encouraging the networking of students undertaking bioscience courses in the region.

The team comprised of Joyce Masvaya, Adrian Musengi, Tariro Matarirano, Tagarika M Maruza, Sarah Z Mariwo, Vavariro Chipunza, Caroline Chindodo, Tendai Gukuta from the Harare Institute of Technology's Department of Biotechnology, Mellisa Chimuchembere and Chido Lisa Banda from the University of Zimbabwe's Biosciences Department.
