Ministry Applauds HIT

The Harare Institute of Technology has been applauded as a shining national beacon in the pursuance of excellence in science and technology for sustainable economic development driven by young people.

Ministry Applauds HITSpeaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development at the SANBio Student Ambassador for Zimbabwe Crowning Ceremony, Principal Director in the Ministry, Air Commodore Ivan Gibson Dumba, said it was befitting that the ceremony was held at the Harare Institute of Technology. "HIT has done us a lot of national pride in terms of its achievement in the areas of science and technology development. We applaud HIT for this achievement", he said.

Air Commodore Ivan Gibson Dumba added that the SANBio Student Ambassador for Zimbabwe Crowning Ceremony dovetails into the Ministry's mandate of human capital development and the promotion of science and technology development. "This is a ceremony that bestows an honour on one of our young promising students, Joyce Fati Masvaya who has done us national pride by being selected for the prestigious  SANBio National Student Ambassador," he said

"It is a very good development and it should inspire all our youngsters to emulate this very good example. The ministry places a lot of significance to science and technology development, especially when it is driven by young people, hence the introduction of the STEM Initiative to spearhead sustainable economic development," said Air Commodore Ivan Gibson Dumba.

Ministry Applauds HITJoyce Fati Masvaya, a third year student at Harare Institute of Technology studying for a Bachelor of Technology (Hons) Degree in Biotechnology was crowned the SANBio Student Ambassador for Zimbabwe at a colourful ceremony held at the HIT Campus.

During her tenure as the SANBio Student Ambassador for Zimbabwe, Masvaya who is currently undertaking an internship at the National Biotechnology Authority of Zimbabwe (NBAZ) will be working with a team comprising institution-level student ambassadors that include Ms Melissa Chimuchembere from the University of Zimbabwe, Ms Nomsa Kitikiti, Mr Kumbirai Luka and Mr Bongani Ndlovu, all from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).

The SANBio Student Ambassadors Programme engages students to promote biosciences and leverage the younger generation's enthusiasm.
