HIT – PSRC Joint International Conference

A joint international conference between the Harare Institute of Technology and the Planet Scientific Research Centre (PSRC) was held on 15 July 2015 at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) under the theme – Collaborative Research For Socio -Economic Development.

Delegates from various universities in India, South Africa, Botswana, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe attended the conference and presented rigorous and diligent research works covering topics in engineering and technology, industrial sciences and technology, business management, technopreneurship and socio – economic development.

In his welcome remarks, HIT Vice Chancellor Eng. Q.C Kanhukamwe acknowledged that the spirit of innovation was thriving amongst  universities.  "I am impressed by the hosting of this conference, it is encouraging to see the collaboration amongst institutions and this is a rich platform for keeping up with industry developments.  Such research collaborations with industry have often led firms into new technologies and applications" he said

Eng. Kanhukamwe challenged the delegates to take personal responsibility for change, to innovate, to collaborate, to lead, to put the community first and to engage beyond the confines of their desks, business units, departments or jurisdictions to develop new ways of doing things.

In his opening speech at the conference, Mr P. Muredzi,  Dean in the School of  Industrial Sciences and Technology said the conference must foster collaborations and partnerships across all sectors and is a commitment of high calibre researches.  "HIT must ensure that the research projects are used practically for the benefit of the nation",  he said.

Dean Muredzi added that the development of world class research in science, engineering, technology and mathematics (STEM) is critical to the nation's global leadership and this international conference aims to foster a culture of developing partnerships for international and community based research action.

The HIT Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering and Planet Scientific Research Centre (PSRC) of India jointly organised the conference.
